Visual Identity Redesign

BUILDING INSTALLATIONS (link)
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: As the Chair of our Department's Recruitment Committee, I directed a long-term project to provide a comprehensive "visual identity" for our department, a first-time departmental unification of color scheme, font choice, and visual identifiers for documents, recruitment mailers, t-shirts, etc. This project developed over three years, accompanied by the task of building department consensus and then moving into the meticulous work of updating "copy text" for a new recruitment mailer, website and more.
Our committee partnered with faculty and students from UHM's Graphic Design BFA program, who initially premiered their ideas in the Art Department's Commons Gallery. Recently our department "launched" the team's completely redesigned website, recruitment mailers and envelopes, t-shirts, and other marketing pieces of this "visual identity redesign" project.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Hosted by the Aloha Council of Scouts BSA, the Ellison Onizuka Day of Exploration is a day of free hands-on activities and workshops to teach keiki about science, technology, engineering and math in honor of Hawai'i astronaut and Eagle Scout Ellison Onizuka.
In addition to over 100 STEM workshops for young audiences, the event featured a “Jedi Training Workshop” that included alumni and current students from UHMʻs Department of Theatre + Dance. Roaming Star Wars characters coupled with hands-on lightsaber training proved to be one of the most popular attractions of the entire event, inviting hundreds of young “padawan” students to “use the force” for good.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: CiRCO Redempto (CR) is a community outreach program designed to benefit children from the Nosu Yi minority nationality in central China. CiRCO is the Spanish word for "circus" while Redempto is an imaginative play on the English word "redemption" and its Spanish equivalent redención. The word redemption means to "buy back, repurchase, help to overcome something detrimental or change for the better" and CiRCO Redempto seeks to accomplish this in the lives of those Nosu Yi children with the fewest economic, social and educational opportunities.
CR's CiRCO Summer program offers annual tuition-free summer training programs that provide instruction in the performing arts, the fine arts, language and public health. CiRCO Redempto invites Nosu children from the poorest households to participate in this engaging educational and artistic opportunity. Each summer older students associated with CR help to facilitate three to five "camps," offering over 100 Nosu Yi elementary-aged children close mentor relationships with high school and college-aged students, each of whom have already come through the CiRCO Redempto program.
